CAFE SOCIETY
A lot of my paintings are what I call 'must paint moments' If I visit a city I just wander around, camera or pencil at the ready, people watching waiting for something to happen. Usually something that suggests a story.
Cafe culture has always been important, somewhere to meet friends, gain sustenance whether calorific or intellectual or just while away the time.
The views into or out of cafes has always intrigued me, from the link between diners and their waiters or even from the tablescapes left behind when they leave.
All of my cafes are real places, with real people frozen in a moment of time, some might find them intrusive. I just regard it as watching actors on a public stage.
